8-Week Beginner’s Modern Calligraphy Course in Hinckley

£120 (plus £20 for equipment bundle)

For anyone wanting to do this course that has already completed the 4-week basic course – NO PROBLEM. I can show you ink-resist work (this takes a few weeks to build up the process) while any new people get up to speed and then we can all complete the card together.

Embark on a journey into the art of modern calligraphy over this comprehensive 8-week course.
From foundational techniques to festive touches, you’ll learn everything needed to craft the perfect, impressive card/ Christmas card inside and out that are sure to dazzle your friends! Not forgetting envelope layout numbers and flourishes!

Week 1: Introduction to Modern Calligraphy

• Basics of pen handling and nib orientation.
• Understanding the fundamental letter structures.

Week 2: Consistency in Lettering

• Techniques for achieving smooth letter flow.
• Exploring the use of ink and metallic paints and why I use them.

Week 3: Flourishing and Layout Design

• Incorporating elegant flourishes into your calligraphy.
• Utilizing calligraphy rulers for precise layout designs.

Week 4: Card Design Techniques

• Initiating your card design.
• Exploring various blending methods.

Week 5: Design/Craft the inner Card

• Completing the outer card.

Week 6: Finalizing the Inner and outer Card

• Perfecting the design maybe add flourishes

Week 7: Envelope Design not forgetting ‘numbers’ and inner lining.

• Exploring different envelope styles and techniques.

Week 8: Completion and Troubleshooting.

• Finalizing your card and envelope.
• Addressing any remaining questions to ensure you’re Christmas-ready.

Each session includes dedicated practice time to build muscle memory and refine the skills you’ve learned. By the end of the course, you’ll not only have a beautiful set of custom Christmas cards but also the confidence and technique to continue exploring the art of calligraphy.

Equipment Bundle

Jane has put together an equipment bundle so that you are all starting off on the right foot with everything you need for the 8-week course. It includes nibs x2, ink, metallic paint (Coliro), penholder, laminated practice lines, example sheets, layout practice paper and paintbrush – all for £20.
Upgrade for another £8 to get the modern calligraphy booklet and full layout practice pad (pad alone is normally £8).
