Discover the art of Modern Calligraphy in our Cathedral’s beautiful new Visitor Centre workspace with experienced tutor Jane Lappage. This relaxed and inspiring workshop is perfect for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh their skills.

All materials are provided – you’ll learn how to hold and use the pen and nib, experiment with metallic paints, and practise using guided worksheets. By the end of the session, you’ll create your own personalised wreath design to take home and treasure.

Jane has been teaching calligraphy for many years and describes Modern Calligraphy as “wonderful and user-friendly” compared with traditional scripts. It’s suitable for both right-handed and left-handed writers – so no excuses, lefties!

Jane only teaches with tools and products she trusts to give the best results, and she’ll have carefully selected items available to purchase if you’d like to continue practising at home.

Tip: If you already own calligraphy supplies, feel free to bring them along. Jane will be happy to check whether they’re suitable for this workshop or advise on their best use.
